Spatial Re-Configuration
Reconfiguring the ground floor of a Harpenden home, where rooms with multiple doors made for small spaces and a lack of family time, due to a stagnant flow in the house. We redesigned the floor-plan creating useful and hidden storage areas at the entrance, and an inviting and modern small cloakroom for visiting guests. From there, the layout flows into the new open-plan kitchen and dining area. Once, a small kitchen with an impractical serving island blocked the natural flow of the room. Now, an inviting space where the whole family gathers around the large island for family breakfast and snacks. The family enjoys cooking together while discussing the latest sports game being broadcast on the media wall. Previously, lighting was a big issue. We opened up the rooms and introduced directional skylights and a large panel bifold, flooding the space with natural light where little artificial light is needed during the day. Redesigning the garage into a warm and practical utility space also provided plenty of storage and an organized area to keep the house working in perfect harmony.
